Questions therapists ask

Straight answers about what Mendly does, what it costs, and what it is not.

What is Mendly?

Mendly is a between-session check-in tool for therapists. You choose the questions each client answers every day, from a library of 125 wellbeing questions or your own. You can also assign standardized questionnaires such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7. Clients answer the daily check-in in about two minutes on the web or in the Mendly app, and you see their trends over time and which of the things they track line up with their mood.

How can I see how my client's week went between sessions?

Invite the client from your dashboard and pick the questions they answer. Each day they complete a short check-in. Before the next session, open their page to see a chart of each day, every note they wrote, and which tracked factors moved with their mood. Each week Mendly also emails you a short summary: how many of your clients checked in and how many may need attention. Names and scores stay in Mendly, not in the email.

Is there a free tool for between-session client check-ins?

Yes. Mendly is free for up to 2 clients, with no credit card. Paid plans are $9/month for up to 5 clients, $19/month for up to 10, and $29/month for unlimited clients. Annual billing gives two months free. Clients never pay.

What can clients track in a daily check-in?

Anything you can phrase as a question: sleep, exercise, anxiety, stress, social contact, medication taken, time outside, or something specific to that client. Each question can be yes/no, a number, a 1–10 scale, or free text. Every check-in also asks for an overall mood score, which is what the patterns are measured against.

How does Mendly show what goes with a client's mood?

For a yes/no question, Mendly compares the average mood on days the answer was yes with days it was no. For a number or scale, it shows how closely the two move together. Patterns appear once there are enough days to compare: three yes days and three no days for a yes/no question, or five answered days for a number or scale. About a week of check-ins is usually enough to start. They show association, not cause, and are meant to inform your clinical judgement, not replace it.

Is Mendly an EHR or practice management system?

No. Mendly does not do notes, scheduling, billing, claims, telehealth or intake. It is a between-session tracking and insight layer that sits alongside whatever practice software you already use.

Does Mendly use the PHQ-9 or GAD-7?

Yes. Alongside the daily check-in, you can assign standardized questionnaires to any client: the PHQ-9 (or the PHQ-8, which leaves out the self-harm question), GAD-7, PCL-5 and AUDIT-C. Each one comes due on a schedule you choose, and the scores build up on the client’s page over time. If a client answers above zero on PHQ-9 question 9, they are shown crisis resources and the answer is flagged on your dashboard until you mark it reviewed. Mendly does not monitor answers in real time. Questionnaires are included on every plan, including free.

How is Mendly different from measurement-based care platforms?

Measurement-based care platforms center on standardized questionnaires and are usually built for larger organizations. Mendly includes the common ones (PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5 and AUDIT-C), but its center is a daily check-in made from questions you pick for each client, priced for solo and small practices, with the focus on what tends to go with that particular client’s better and harder days.

Do my clients need to download an app?

No. Clients can check in from a web browser or from the Mendly app on iPhone and Android. The app is free for clients and included in every plan, and the invitation you send works in both.

What do client reminders say?

Only that it is time to check in. A reminder never names what the client tracks, how they answered, or a score, so nothing private shows up on a lock screen or in an inbox.

How is client data protected?

Client data is encrypted in transit and at rest, therapist accounts use multi-factor authentication, and Mendly signs a Business Associate Agreement with every therapist before they can add a client.

Can people use Mendly without a therapist?

Yes. The Mendly app also offers a personal account for tracking your own wellbeing. Personal accounts are kept completely separate from the therapist product: a therapist never sees them, and a therapist's clients are never offered them.
